This course is for the instructor who has already completed a SUP instructor qualification outside of New Zealand, and is looking to convert their qualification to the NZ standard. (If you are looking to renew your NZ SUP Instructor qualification then please click here).
The conversion process requires working through this online course, and then completing a practical assessment, which will take 5-6 hours.
As you already hold a SUP instructor qualification, the purpose of this course is to fill in any gaps in your knowledge, and also to bring you up to speed with the relevant NZ legislation, and the NZ way of doing things. At the beginning of each lesson are some questions for you to self-assess your current level of knowledge and understanding of the relevant material. If it’s material you’re very comfortable with then feel free to move on to the next lesson. However, you are unsure about anything mentioned there we strongly recommend working through the online lesson to refresh your knowledge. Treat it as a refresher course – professional development.
Remember – the way it works here in New Zealand is that the onus is on you as the professional instructor to know what you need to know. If something goes wrong, ignorance is never an acceptable excuse. The self-assessment tests at the end of the course will give you a good indication as to whether you need to refresh on any areas.
Once you have completed this course you are welcome to return to the material here at any time over the next 24 months to refresh your knowledge again, should you wish.
As well as working through the lessons and tests in this online course, you will also need to:
- Upload a current profile picture of yourself, and a short resume of your instructional career over the last few seasons.
- Upload a certificate or proof of a current first aid qualification.
- Work through the SUP RESCUE course, so that you’re fully familiar with all the material. There may be a few differences or additions in how we do things here in NZ to the rescue techniques you learned on your own instructor course, but hopefully the main concepts will all be familiar to you. Your board rescue skills will be put to the test at the Assessment.
The time taken to complete this online course will depend on how many of the lessons you choose to do in full. If you are very comfortable with the material here you should be able to complete the course in no more than a few hours.
Completing this course and passing the practical assessment will grant you your NZ SUP Level 1 Instructor qualification for 24 months, and give you unlimited access to the instructor material and information on this website throughout that period.
If you are converting your overseas qualification in order to start a new business or project in New Zealand, then do be aware that there is a whole lot of other information that you’re going to need regarding your responsibilities and legal requirements, creating your documentation, equipment choices, etc etc. The information you will need can all be found in the online SUP Business course available here.
Any questions at any time, feel free to contact us.
We hope you enjoy the course.
